JSC Wind Power is developing the Ruisi Wind Farm Project on the territory of Kareli and Gori Municipalities in Shida Kartli (Inner Kartli) region based on the Memorandum of Understanding on August 10, 2021, signed with the Government of Georgia. According to the assessment of wind regimes on the selected territory location the Ruisi Wind Farm is suitable for the installation of wind turbines with 206 MW total installed capacity.


The wind farm will be part of the Georgian power system which will Increase domestic power generation and contribute to improving energy safety and energy independence, as well as developing renewable energy sources. The project will have significant and regular input into the revenue of Kareli and Gori Municipalities.


JSC Wind Power is seeking project financing from EBRD, which requires project to comply with the EBRD and best practice standards and assess environmental and social issues to ensure that the project minimizes any environmental and social impacts and realizes suitable mitigation measures. Local and international experts were appointed by WP to carry out the Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study for the planned project to obtain EBRD and regulatory approval and project financing, Therefore, as part of the ESIA process and in line with EBRD requirements, WP is consulting with relevant stakeholders to inform them about the project and to receive any feedback/comments/recommendations regarding it, particularly: construction and operational impacts on the natural environment and local communities including land acquisition, geology/soil and water quality, noise, ecology, archaeology/cultural heritage were assessed in the ESIA study.

Public consultations have already been conducted with the dwellers of the following villages: Ruisi, Urbnisi, Sakasheti, Arashenda, Bebnisi, Breti, Dirbi, and Shindisi. Upcoming public consultations are planned in Kareli and Gori on June 25, 2024

  1. Kareli municipality (municipality building: N3 Noneshvili street, Kareli) at 12:00

  2. Gori Municipality (municipality building: N5 G. Peradze street, Gori) at 15:00

 

Transportation will be available from Tbilisi at 10:00 am on June 25 at the Republic Square (in front of the Bicycle sculpture) for all interested parties to participate in public consultations in Kareli and Gori municipalities.
